Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon

 Myrtle Beach, SC

I was out sick for this race, but my mom still raced it and here is her recap of it.

The Myrtle beach mini marathon was  a very well run point to point race.

The weather was beautiful, the medal was huge and it was a wonderful
sunny day.

Smuttynose Rockfest Half Marathon

Rockfest Half Marathon
Hampton, NH
October 5th, 2014
 Finish time: 1:46:19

A crisp cool morning, windy but sunny and a perfect day for a race. Seeing as I just finished Ironman Augusta the weekend before, I went into this one to take my time, not push myself, and just enjoy it. The day before it was gross, rainy and foggy. Thankfully the weather changed for the better.

This was the race of the year. My "A" race. And man did I make it an A. I Pr'd the race by about 20 minutes, bested my swim and run times and overall was a great day, a fast weekend but a great day.

Nations Sprint Triathlon

Sprint Triathlon
750m swim, 16m bike, 5k run
Washington, DC
AG 25-29: 1st!
Overall female- 4th

So yes the swim was canceled thanks to the storm that hit the night before, it was a bummer for some but for me, I just did not care. This was a practice race for me before Augusta. Well, it must have been a great practice ride because I kicked butt! I placed 1st for my age group and missed the 3rd overall female slot by 5 seconds!

New York City Triathlon

New York, NY
Olympic Distance
Finish time: 2:31:04
AG 25-29: 10th/250

This past weekend, I braved the waters of the Hudson river and the slick wet roads of the Henry Hudson parkway during the New York City Triathlon. I have to say, this was one of if not the best triathlons I have ever raced. I enjoyed every minute of it, well maybe not the 3:45 AM wake-up but overall, I loved it and will definitely put my name in the lottery again for 2015.

IRONMAN Eagleman 70.3

Cambridge, MD
1.2 mi Swim, 56 mi Bike, 13.1 mi Run
June 8th, 2014
Finish Time: 5:54:25
AG: 27th

Well, A PR is a PR is a PR. Yes, I was extremely happy to PR but I wish it was more than 2 minutes. The week leading up to the race I was wondering what the water temperature would be. It was in the low 70's all week and of course race day it was 76. So no wetsuit yet again. That weekend it was hot and sunny so we knew there was a chance, but I was hopeful. We stayed in St. Michaels as Cambridge has minimal hotels (and I mean minimal), and St. Michaels is overall just so much prettier. If you plan on doing this race, book your hotels fast because seeing as there isn't much in this area, they sell out fast.

Rock Hall Sprint Triathlon

Rock Hall, MD
750-meter swim, 15-mile bike, 5k run
June 1st, 2014
Finish Time: 1:24:44
AG- 3rd

I did this race in 2012 and I loved it. But since I was in Florida last summer, I wasn't able to do it again. This year Chris came with me and we stayed in Chestertown the night before so the drive was only 20 minutes to the race Sunday morning. There were many more people this year racing and a larger transition area. I found my spot and counted to the rack it was so I would know where to turn.

My Top 5 Transition Must Do's

Are your transition times slow? is this because of a stubborn wetsuit? We've all experienced that before. So here are my tips for making transitions easy and smooth.

It's that time of the year again. The days are longer, the sun is stronger and the air is warmer. We are almost to summer time!! And what a better way to enjoy those long runs or even walks out during the summer months than with a hat that can protect you from the sun and stop the sweat from dripping in your eyes!

I recently got myself the Headsweats reflecting visor which is perfect for the early morning runs or the late night ones so that you can be seen by passing cars. I also got my Ironman 70.3 hat that I can brag with while out on my runs (hey I did a half ironman, you know I want to brag about that!) The hats and visors are very conformable and are the only ones that I wear when I am out for a run. The supervisor posted above has an elastic band in the back to adjust to anyone's head while the race hat has an adjustable strap in case you prefer those options. I love the supervisor myself, especially during triathlons and I use the race hat when it's too hot outside and too sunny where my scalp may burn. And I promise your head will NOT OVER HEAT. I have been using Headsweats for a couple of years now and all of the other brands have never come close to their quality.

Headsweats also makes hats for your college teams, foundations, Ironman events, special ones for the mom in your life that loves to run or you can customize them for a family day event! I plan on getting a Miami one for football season when I attend the games and mainly because it is just too damn hot outside not to wear a hat. I have also felt the repercussions with my sweat stinging my eyes and my sun burnt face. So head on over to and use promo code tribarbie to get 25% off!

I promise you won't regret it.

Rock N Roll USA Half Marathon

Half Marathon
Washington, DC
March 15, 2014
AG Place- 138/2807
Chip Time: 1:44:27

I am so incredibly sorry it has taken my this long to post my race recap but when you are writing a thesis at the same time, other things are forgotten. Anywho, I ran the Rock n Roll USA half marathon in march and since this race was in my backyard, it was just any old day of running. I woke up that morning at 5:30 to try and get to the start line around 6:30. The race started at 7:30 and it was a nice 45 degrees in the morning. My mom and brother also ran the race so I met up with them for a brief moment at the corrals but I had to go to the bathroom so I said good luck.

Oh the weather outside just sucks

Well, February was a fun month. Literally it snowed and snowed and the polar vortex and 60 degrees on Sunday and snow on Monday. I mean seriously?! Well, this was great for my training as I haven't been able to get outside on my bike since forever it seems.

P90X3 Month 1

The rest of month was quite fantastic. The 3rd week for some reason was much more difficult than the 2nd, but it was nice to have a recovery week in week 4 even though it wasn't too much of a recovery as I ran a half marathon at the end of it. It was a great combination of pushups, planks, sphinxs, balance work, cardio and so much more

Month 2 has started off and as I was traveling on Monday I had to do a double workout on Tuesday. Lets just say QUADS. Holy hell do they hurt. And now that I am back to triathlon training it makes my body so sore. Yoga is still one of my favorite workouts and the best way to wind down at the end of a day.

If you want a great workout, P90X3 is the stuff.

Surf City Half Marathon

Surf City Half Marathon
Huntington Beach, CA
February 2nd, 2014
Finish Time- 1:52:52
AG (25-29)- 99th/1227

It was nice to finally get out of the snow and cold ridden east coast and head on out to sunny San Diego, but sadly it was chilly there too! We arrived in San Diego after a long flight and that evening I was able to meet up with a few friends I haven't been able to see in over a year.

P90X3 Week 1

So Far P90X3 is off to a great start. The workouts are fun and did I mention only 30 minutes??? Which means I still have time to get my swim, bike and run on! The workouts this week have been a huge wake-up call as it consisted of a lot of balance, flexibility, and ab work. I thought I was flexible and had quite the balance, but I guess over the years, it has deteriorated (they say running can do that to you).

My favorite was the warrior workout, it consisted of cardio, abs, balance the whole shebang. It was fun and went by super fast. I will say that my goal for the end of this month is to do the moves without struggling. So far, I have already accomplished that goal with some of them but NOT ALL OF THEM.

My workouts always consist of some shakeology afterward because it tastes so good and helps replenish your body with vitamins and minerals.

I swear by this, P90X3 is the best training partner for triathlon training. It helps build those muscles you could spend hours working on in the gym. With P90X3, it works all the muscles in just 30 minutes. Plus it helps improve your balance and flexibility. I am having a blast so far and I can't wait to see the results in 90 days!

I am utterly excited to announce that for 2014 I will also be representing the fantabulous company SOAS!! I love this company, their clothes for racing are beautiful and comfortable. Not once during my 70.3 did I have any situation where I didn't feel that my girls weren't supported. Plus the outfit and yes I will call them outfits were able to keep me feeling pretty even when I felt gross. Plus my mom could spot me from a mile away!. Check out SOAS racing if you want to feel pretty and like a girls girl while racing triathlons. If you would like a discount use code ErinLockwood for 10% off!
