Favorite Training Clothes and Gear for 2013

The North Face

I will say that I love Lululemon clothes for running and Under Armour for cold gear, but I recently bought myself a running jacket from The North Face and it has changed my perspective on running clothes. The jacket is reflective, waterproof, has thumb holes and a zipper in the back for keys, an iPod or phone. It keeps you warm and let's be honest you know you will be protected as it is the North Face.

Lululemon Bitty Sports Bra
Support is very important to me when running as well as not chafing. I have tried many different sports bras even though I love my Moving Comfort, the Bitty Bracer by Lululemon is fantastic. It has a buckle in the back so it doesn't make putting on over your head impossible. They have cups available, but I don't need them. Plus when you sweat it fits itself to your body to make it comfortable. it is not bulky like moving comfort and it does a better job of supporting my girls.

Feetures Socks
http://www.feeturesbrand.com/Let me just say that I am in LOVE with Feetures. As someone who has a very high arch, i need arch support and these socks do it. Even when your shoes have been worn down and don't provide as much arch support, these socks take care of that problem. They are soft, comfy and above all else compression filled. These are the wool socks for those cold winter days when the regular ones just won't do. they are not bulky, but they are soft and keep my toes very warm. I love Feetures and you will too!

Newton Running Distance Elite

Before the fire I was running in brooks pure connects. I still love those shoes, but I decided to give Newtons a try since they last twice as long, have a shorter heel drop ratio of only 2mm and they help fix your gait even more. They come in beautiful colors and I love them! they do take some time to adjust to but if you are looking for a better stride and shoes that you don't have to replace every two months. Here I am wearing them in my race and I love the pink! they come in lots of great colors, bright and beautiful!

Compex Edge Muscle Stimulator

http://www.shopcompex.com/The best thing since sliced bread. Okay, maybe not sliced bread but ever since my Half Ironman, I would be able to survive without my Compex Edge. It is great for recovery, resistance, and endurance. It is easy to use and very bulky. Can easily be hidden underneath clothes. Compex saves the muscles after you work them with the muscle stimulator and I love the feeling. A bit pricey, but they occasionally have discounts.

JayBird BlueBuds X
My newest addition which I love thanks to my boyfriend wanting a pair of his own has been the Bluetooth headphones. Yes, they run out of battery unlike regular ones but it makes not having to deal with the cord so much easier. Plus they offer USA Triathlon members a discount. They fit to your ear, the inside of it and the BlueBuds are the newest ones from their line of gear.

Recently I decided to dive into the Bonk Breaker energy bar as I was in training for my 70.3 and I have to say I love them. I was hesitant at first because I tried a flavor I didn't like but this time I tried peanut butter and jelly and I love it. By far my favorite flavor and I highly Suggest trying them. While doing my 70.3 my stomach was uneasy already and so eating gels was all I could handle but thankfully so were these and they helped immensely. I suggest the peanut butter and jelly flavor but definitely give bonk breaker a try.

"You put me in a race where there's a lot on the line, especially when people tell me 'you can't win', or 'you're too small', you tell me those things and I'll find a way to prove you wrong."

After a tough few months in my life, the one thing I was looking forward to was tri season. Racing, competing and overall having fun! I chose to race Miami's south beach tri since that was the first one I did last year in my inaugural season. I flew down to Miami on Friday to give myself a head start, plus to meet up with friends from undergrad.

Putting together the 2014 race Schedule

So it is that time of year again. Time to put together the old race schedule for 2014!! This year I would like to do a couple of road races and a bunch of Tris and maybe some Du's, but this year I am going to try and do my multisport races locally. I traveled a lot last year all over the country and into London with my bike and as much fun as it was, I prefer to try and stay locally this year, ie driving to my races within a 5 hour distance. So because of this, I have decided to add Ironman Eagleman 70.3 to my list of early season races which I am very excited about. After Ironman Miami 70.3, I fell in love with the distance and want to continue doing them. So for 2014 I have 2 70.3's on the schedule, as of right now 1 Oly and a bunch of Sprints. I don't think I will be doing Nationals again this year, but that may be a game-time decision we will see but as of right now the ones I will be flying to will be Chicago and Augusta. I will most likely throw in a couple more race as I figure out my schedule but for right now, I have 10 races for sure I am doing.

Since Ironman Miami, I have been enjoying my off-season immensely. I have been running pretty much every other day, giving my back a break after putting it through hell in the saddle and just enjoying having time off which I didn't get to do last year.

I have been acquiring sponsors and ambassadorships while also finishing up my semester of grad school. SO if there is anything I can suggest to other triathletes and road racers out there, ENJOY YOUR OFF-SEASON. It will come and go before you know it and I have just enjoyed being able to relax and not focus on training.

Now that the year is coming to an end I will say 2013 started off horribly but ended pretty fantastic. I am however looking forward to 2014 very much. Finishing grad school and starting another racing season. So enjoy the last few days of 2013, I will as I am enjoying the warm weather in sunny Florida.
